LAUNCESTON UKULELE JAMBOREE 2023

2023 saw the Launceston Ukulele Jamboree expand into it’s current 3-day format, with the support of the Launceston City Council grants program, among other smaller sponsors. Excitement levels were at fever pitch for this expanded weekend festival, and over 200 attendees were treated to top notch performers from around Australia, as well as NZ. Festival Hub was the Pilgrim Church complex in Paterson St and workshops were held throughout the whole day Saturday, and Friday and Saturday night concerts showcased professional performers.

The public performance program in the Brisbane St Mall saw community groups and professional performers delight the Saturday shoppers, the biggest and best flash mob ever of 100+ ukesters playing “500 Miles” with The Scotsman Music, and an amazing performance by children from Ravenswood, Waverley and East Tamar Primary Schools was the fabulous end result of a week of workshops hosted by The Wild Women of Anywhere Beach (NSW) and funded by generous local musicians & Barratts Music.

A mini-market was held in the covered Pilgrim Church walkway, with all sorts of wares on sale as well as musical instruments galore and uke themed goodies.

The Sunday program was a fabulous playalong and open mic session held in the Pilgrim Hall, and was a fitting end to a wild weekend of community music fun!
